A1 Strategy & Infrastructure assists councils to understand whether their community infrastructure is well placed to meet current and future needs. This includes assessing the capacity, condition, location, accessibility and functional suitability of facilities such as community centres, halls, libraries, sport and recreation facilities, open space, civic spaces and other community assets.
Our work brings together population forecasts, settlement patterns, demographic change, service demand, asset information, utilisation data and strategic planning priorities. This helps identify where existing infrastructure is under pressure, where assets may no longer be fit for purpose, and where future growth may create gaps in provision or access.
We recognise that long term needs are not always best met through new infrastructure. In many cases, better outcomes may be achieved through renewal, expansion, reconfiguration, shared use, partnerships, improved management or staged investment.
The result is practical, evidence based advice that helps councils align community infrastructure with growth, service standards, financial sustainability and community wellbeing.

Some useful information that helps explain why councils need to regularly test whether community infrastructure remains fit for purpose as population growth, participation patterns, service expectations and settlement patterns change.
